“You could have an economy in which firms are democratically owned and still allow free trade both within and across borders.”—These owners are called shareholders and shareholders do get to vote on who manages the company.

Ya. Moreover, the idea that workers collectively can competently make management decisions seems very very suspect. Some surely can, but there's a huge element of talent involved. Firms run by incompetent managers (most people would be such) fail.

(Socialists say Elon Musk didn't create Telsa or SpaceX - his workers did. So why do Musk's firms succeed and his competitors fail, then? It's not like nobody ever tried building electric cars or rockets.)
